METL 101 Welding Theory/Safety
2cr.  (2 lec/wk)
Presents welding processes, joint design and fit-up, electrode types, safety and shop practices.  The various types of arc and oxy-fuel welding and cutting equipment are explained.

METL 102 Blueprint Reading and Welding Symbols
3 cr.  (3 lec/wk)
Studies the interpretation of blueprints, the basic lines and views used in orthographic drawings, isometric sketching and welding symbols.

METL 103 Welding and Cutting
10 cr.  (20 lab/wk)
A comprehensive course shielded metal arc (stick) welding in all positions with the commonly used electrodes 6010, 7018, and 7024.  The oxyacetylene process, including fusion welding, braze welding, and manual and machine cutting, is covered.  Safety, proper use of equipment and quality control are emphasized throughout.

METL 201 Layout
3 cr.  (3 lec/wk)  Prerequisites:  METL 101, METL 102, and METL 103 or instructor approval.
Employs pattern development and intersections in layouts in fabrication shops.  Simple layout, parallel line development, radial line development and triangulation are learned.

METL 202 Metal Fabrication Theory
2 cr.  (2 lec/wk)  Prerequisites:  METL 101, METL 102, and METL 103 or instructor approval.
Introduces metal fabrication design and safe operation of fabrication equipment including shears, pressbrakes, ironworkers, punches, drill presses, etc. is taught.  The terminology used in the industry, the theory of fabrication and an introduction to materials commonly used to produce weldments are included.

METL 203 Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG)
3 cr.  (1 lec/4 lab/wk)  Prerequisites:  METL 101, METL 102, and METL 103 or instructor approval.
Studies semiautomatic welding with solid wire and flux-cored wires.

METL 204 Metal Fabrication
7 cr.  (14 lab/wk)  Prerequisites:  METL 101, METL 102, and METL 103 or instructor approval.
Projects are assigned to introduce the student to the types of work commonly encountered in fabrication shops.  Includes the proper use of fabrication equipment, proper shop practices, cost saving measures and shop safety.

METL 292 Seminar
V 1-3 cr.
Provides students an opportunity to investigate intensively topics pertinent to the field of metal fabrication.

METL 293 Workshop
V 1-3 cr.
Provides an opportunity for experimental study in an area of metal fabrication.

METL 296 Cooperative Education/Internship
V 1-9 cr.  (45 hours/credit)
